Initiatives we support

Installation of a 20 MW Biomass Power Project in Godawari, Nepal
‍
This project aims to generate electricity from renewable biomass residues, specifically rice husks, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (CO2). Biomass is a CO2-neutral fuel, meaning the electricity produced by GPIL from renewable biomass results in zero greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, it replaces fossil fuel-intensive electricity generation from the Indian grid, further reducing emissions from such fossil fuels.

Installation of High-Efficiency Wood Stoves in Malawi, Southeast Africa

This project in Malawi distributes 500,000 improved cookstoves (ICS) to replace traditional basic stoves. These ICS, specifically TLC-CQC rocket stoves, burn wood more efficiently and improve heat transfer, reducing fuel consumption. The initiative aims to combat deforestation, lower health risks associated with indoor smoke, and decrease the time women and children spend collecting firewood.

Electricity Generation Through a Run-of-River Hydropower Plant in Las Pizarras, Peru

The Las Pizarras project in Peru is a run-of-river hydropower plant with a total installed capacity of 18 MW, expected to generate 103.32 GWh of electricity annually. It utilizes water from the Chancay River and feeds the energy into the national grid (SEIN). With a minimum operational lifespan of 40 years, the project is projected to avoid 68,132 tons of CO2 equivalents (tCO2e) annually, amounting to 681,323 tons of CO2 over the first 10 years.
